Into Each Generation a Fan is Born
Will Xander finally wake up to Cordelia's feelings? Who exactly is Angel (a good vampire?), and will we find out why he's so hot and mysterious? And what exactly happened to the high school gymnasium in L.A. that blew it up (did I miss the feature film)? And man, if Giles got it on with the "Slayer"...(That'd be crazy!). But don't tell me, I'll find out on my own. For now you may smirk from your seen-the-full-run-of-the-series pedestle at my feeble conjectures.
Because ya, I bit the bullet--with the help of a generous lend from a friend--and I'm going to try to "get" what all my film professors and pop-culturally-minded friends had raved about for years. So far I've made it through the first four episodes of Disc 1, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete First Season on DVD.
I admire the female lead and the politics it entails (though I'll need to think about them more closely); I like the subtle pastiche and self-reference; I've smirked in mild amusement at the old sitcom cliches; I can even stomache the not-so-subtle teen drama (though the plethora of mini skirts aren't too difficult to handle) and painfully-crude fight scenes.
Don't let the title of this post fool ya; my final opinions are forthcoming.

Fellow Vancouverite here. Well, actually, Burnaby-ite... I am very much enjoying your website, and finally I've found something to comment on! The fight scenes get better, I promise. During the first season Buffy does a lot of jumpy-punchy kicky stuff.. it tends to look more like an aerobics routine. 1 2 3 jump! 1 2 3 Duck! 1 2 3 kick!
Do you recommend the Foundation year at Emily Carr? Just tell me it's really great so I can stop procrastinating and go already...

Foundation is great. I highly recommend it. Contact me personally and I can tell you why it--and Emily Carr--is so great.
